A Mother’s Wisdom: Never Borrow
A visual representation of mother. “Gentle is the hand that guides.”
I finally understand the deeper meaning behind my mother’s wisdom. She never let me borrow my friends clothing or anything as a child.
“Never borrow,” she said“…get your own.”
As an adolescent who generally yearns for group acceptance, all I wanted to do was be like everyone else and feel a sense of normal. As we grow, that sense of what is normal, and what is simply social conformity begins to make itself clear. Individuation is intimidating namely because the image that exists outside of yourself you already know you will not be able to replicate exactly, but your expression of that image is birthed from a greater place that exceeds your conception.
Modern aesthetics is more accepting than ever, but there is still much to be done. Now is the time to exist authentically.
The perfection of your singular expression is exactly what the collective needs.
Diverse images of self, open our eyes to diversity.
What belongs to another you can never inherit. Authentic interpretation of inspiration will always carry your essence.
In the words of my mother, “Never borrow, get your own.”
