2019: An Abstraction A Day
Moise Benkow (1892-1952). Hands 1935
The Holiday brings us closer to who we are at our core. We pull ourselves away from our busy demanding schedules and take time to gather around the hearth of our personal virtues. Connecting with years of tradition, creating your own traditions, and reflecting on the year that has passed and becoming inspired by what the New Year could bring and the person you could become, ignites the fires that fuel our intentions.
Our holiday brought a depth in the connections felt with our loved ones, the richness of the experiences we shared were felt like an effervescent elixir. We distilled our experience into a potent essence that would only include what meant most to us.
This reminded me of the technique of Abstraction.
Abstraction is the distillation of an essence, experience, or concept into its most potent from.
Documenting the smallest moments, shape and color of an essence breathes meaning into your work.
2019 will be documented with 365 days of this distillation process though images. I find language both liberating and cumbersome. At times Iām able to write seamlessly, while other times I find myself unable to write three sentences. While reading about the dear Queen of England a quote about her equestrian talents read
She has an ability to get to horses psychologically attuned to what she wants and then to persuade them to enjoy it.
The ability to persuade with only ones presence might be the embodiment of authenticity itself. Abstraction in essence, embodied. Only time will tell.
An abstraction a day keeps the cliche away.
