Marshall McLuhan: You are the Medium and the Message

After a long contemplation of silence, I picked up The Gutenberg Galaxy and began reading about communication.
In Marshall McLuhan’s Gutenberg Galaxy he talks about the means of communication, the medium as being the message. The way we choose to communicate is the message, the words themselves or the message are secondary to the medium. As our means of communication become distilled and simultaneously expanded, we see emojis as abstractions for our feelings and even for entire intended interactions.
When words fail as they often might, we choose an emoji an image of what the socially acceptable meaning to communicate for us.
Symbols, images, brands, as a means of identifying who we are or what we are connected to, or even what we stand for.
Visual language came before written language, naturally, as humans visual representations evoke a stronger reaction. Yet, with all of the worlds and information, we find that we know less and less. Communication as abstraction might be the most potent form of communication,
using intention and symbolic meaning to convey a deeper message.
Does the message reach the audience as intended and if so what does that have to say about our interaction is the medium of communication? If our message is not clear, what then does that say out the energy or intention… choosing to interact or choosing silence, what the silence represents as a means of communication. Behavior and body language, body language and communication,
our presence is a conduit for communication
People have responded well to minimalism and continue to use minimalism as a means to a far more meaningful existence. Maybe that existence is just more money in your savings account, or money to buy that next best thing, either way, taking away what doesn’t matter gives you more room for what does matter.
what you stand for and what does matter is entirely up to you.
Define what your parameters are and then allow those parameters to create what you have envisioned.
